Thank you for returning to the second installment of “How Can I Improve My Website?” a quick primer filled with information you can start using today to better maximize the power of your online home. Last week we discussed how your visitors view their computer screen and the importance of designing your website in the “F” pattern. This go round we’re going to discuss the best way to eliminate any obstacles that may be in the audience’s way.

#2 Clear A Path

Speed is the name of the game online. Your pages need to load fast! Images need to appear on screen as quickly as possible. Most importantly, however, you want your web visitors to find precisely what they came for in the shortest amount of time as possible.

Never put your “About Us” link on the left of your home page navigation. The leading website experts indicate that this page gets the least amount of activity. Remember, the customer is looking for your product/service first, company information second…maybe even third. It’s imperative your product, pricing and specifics are placed somewhere in the top left section of your website. This strategy directs the visitor intuitively to the exact information they are looking for within just a few clicks.
